Notting Hill
Colourful, vibrant and with its roots in the arts, it’s no wonder homes in this London borough are so sought-after.
Home to many celebrities and wealthy residents, Notting Hill has still managed to maintain its bohemian charm, despite its upscale transformation in recent years.
The centre of Notting Hill has a distinctively cosmopolitan feel, but the quaint buildings and leafy streets of the suburbs ensure that the quieter parts of the region are very conventionally ‘London’.
World-class shopping and entertainment venues can be uncovered at Notting Hill Gate, Pembridge Road and Portobello Road, the latter of which hosts an eclectic market every weekend. Revellers descend on the streets for two days every year to join the world-famous Notting Hill Carnival, which celebrates Caribbean music and culture.
Like much of the rest of West London, Notting Hill offers an excellent stock of period properties, including the large, pastel-coloured terraced Victorian houses many associate with this region thanks to the film of the same name. Many of these luxurious homes sit back on private gardens and squares, adding to the borough’s air of exclusivity – and private communal gardens are often shared by next-door neighbours.
There are also plenty of smaller apartments available if you are working to a more modest budget.
